Who has hit the most sixes in Test cricket? Across the record book’s tables, the answer is Ben Stokes of England, with 138 sixes in 121 matches. The count covers 895 men’s Tests played between 19 Dec 2001 and 9 Sep 2026, plus 24 women’s Tests.
Brendon McCullum of New Zealand sits second on 101. Rishabh Pant of India is third on 100, and he got there in only 51 Tests. No Afghanistan Test is included, as the open source files hold none of their games.
Highest Sixes in Test Cricket: How the Top of the List Looks
Only three batters have reached 100 sixes in the Tests covered here: Stokes with 138, McCullum with 101 and Pant with 100. The gap between first and second is wider than the gap between second and tenth, which shows how far Stokes has pulled clear.
The more telling column is matches. Stokes needed 121 Tests for his tally. Pant needed 51, fewer than half as many. Chris Gayle of West Indies hit 80 in just 52 Tests, the second best rate in the top 10 after Pant. At the other end, Steve Smith of Australia has 10,920 runs, the highest figure among the top 25, but only 69 sixes. Heavy run scoring and six hitting are different skills in Test cricket.
This page ranks career totals only. For the single-innings view, start with the highest Test scores, where long innings such as Gayle’s 333 sit.

The India team records page has the wider batting and bowling tables for every format.
Team Leaders, Tail-Enders and Women's Tests
The team table picks the top six hitter for each Test side in the data. Stokes leads England, McCullum leads New Zealand, Angelo Mathews leads Sri Lanka with 88 and Misbah-ul-Haq leads Pakistan with 81. David Warner is Australia’s leader on 70, and AB de Villiers tops South Africa on 63. Tamim Iqbal leads Bangladesh with 41, H Masakadza leads Zimbabwe with 21 and PR Stirling leads Ireland with 7.
Bowlers who bat late also show up. Tim Southee of New Zealand has 98 sixes from 2,245 runs, so a large share of his runs came in sixes. Stuart Broad of England (55) and Mitchell Starc of Australia (49) are also in the top 25.
In women’s Tests, Shafali Verma of India leads with 14 sixes in 7 matches. Nobody else has more than 5, the mark set by her India teammate Smriti Mandhana. With only 24 women’s Tests in the data, these totals stay small.
How to Read These Six Hitting Lists
Every figure counts sixes off the bat in men’s or women’s Tests since 19 Dec 2001, the first match in the data. Batters whose careers began before that date are counted only from that point, so treat each total as “in the matches covered here”. The latest Test included was played on 9 Sep 2026.
Tables can be sorted by clicking any heading. Sorting by Inns next to Sixes shows who clears the rope most often. For the shorter formats, compare these numbers with the ODI six hitting list and the T20I six hitting list, or see all formats together on the international sixes page.
