Twelve innings were all CH Gayle needed to post the most runs in IPL 2011: 608 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, averaging 67.56 and striking at 183.13. The next two names on the list each batted 16 times and still finished behind him.
All 73 games of that season, from 8 Apr 2011 through to 28 May 2011, feed the tables below. Chennai Super Kings took the title, seeing off RCB by 58 runs on their own ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Gayle, Malinga and the IPL 2011 Leaders
Gayle’s Orange Cap season dwarfed the chasing pack. V Kohli, his RCB team-mate, made 557 and SR Tendulkar of Mumbai Indians 553, yet Gayle beat both from 12 matches to their 16. He also made two of the season’s six hundreds and picked up six player of the match awards, a figure nobody else matched.
The Purple Cap belonged to SL Malinga of Mumbai Indians: 28 wickets at 13.39, conceding only 5.95 an over, with a best of 5/13 against Delhi. His team-mate MM Patel was second with 22, so MI had the top two wicket takers. R Ashwin of CSK took 20 and was the leading spinner on the list.
In the win-loss table, CSK won 11 of 16. MI and RCB each won 10. Delhi Capitals, then playing as Delhi Daredevils, and Pune Warriors both won only four. Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, two sides that no longer play in the IPL, each won six.

Most Sixes in IPL 2011 and Every Hundred
Gayle hit 44 sixes, almost twice as many as MS Dhoni of CSK, who was next with 23. SE Marsh, PC Valthaty and M Vijay each cleared the rope 20 times.
Valthaty played the biggest innings: 120* for Punjab Kings, faced 63 balls, against CSK at Mohali on 13 Apr 2011, built mostly on 19 fours. V Sehwag’s 119 off 56 for Delhi came next. AC Gilchrist’s 106 against RCB at Dharamsala on 17 May 2011 drove Punjab to 232/2, the highest total of the year. Tendulkar’s 100* against Kochi completed the set of six hundreds.
Punjab Kings were called Kings XI Punjab at the time; the tables use current names. In Delhi on 23 Apr 2011, the home side’s 231/4 was too much for Punjab, whose reply of 202/6 fell short at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Best Bowling, the Lowest Total and the Final
I Sharma of Deccan Chargers produced the best figures, 5/12 in three overs, on 27 Apr 2011. Kochi Tuskers Kerala were bowled out for 74 in that same match, the lowest total of the season. Four bowlers took five wickets in an innings, and three of them played for Mumbai Indians: Malinga, Harbhajan Singh (5/18) and Patel (5/21).
In the final, M Vijay’s 95 off 52 balls lifted CSK to 205/5, and RCB fell 58 runs short.
