Highest Run Chase in IPL History

Covers all 1,243 IPL matches in the ball-by-ball data, 18 Apr 2008 to 31 May 2026. Super overs are not counted in player figures. Teams are shown under their current names (Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru).

The highest run chase in IPL history is Punjab Kings’ 265/4 against Delhi Capitals, made at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi (25 Apr 2026) with seven balls left in 18.5 overs.

This page lists the 25 biggest successful chases across all 1,243 IPL games staged in the window 18 Apr 2008 to 31 May 2026. Only winning chases count, so a side that scored heavily batting second and still lost does not appear. Teams carry their current names, which is why Punjab Kings also covers the Kings XI Punjab seasons.

Highest Chased in IPL: How the List Has Grown

The dates column tells the story of the last few seasons. Of the 25 chases listed, 11 came in 2026 alone, and only four come from before 2023.

The oldest entry is Rajasthan Royals’ 217/7 against Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad on 24 Apr 2008, in the very first season. Today it sits in the bottom half of the list.

The top two show how far the ceiling has moved. Punjab Kings chased 262/2 in Kolkata on 26 Apr 2024, beating the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens for the loss of only two wickets. Two years later they went three runs better in Delhi. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 249/4 in Mumbai (29 Apr 2026) ranks third, just above their own 247/2 versus Punjab Kings from Apr 2025.

Which Teams Chase Big and Who Gets Chased Down

Three sides share the most entries: Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals each have five. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals have three each, but Punjab Kings own both of the top two places.

The other side of the ledger is more striking. Punjab Kings have been on the losing end of six of these chases, more than any other team. That includes Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 247/2, Rajasthan Royals’ 228/4 (Mullanpur, 28 Apr 2026) and 226/6 (Sharjah, 27 Sep 2020). Rajasthan Royals have conceded five, so the two sides that chase well also leak big chases.

Chennai Super Kings appear only as the side being chased, twice: Mumbai Indians’ 219/6 in Delhi on 1 May 2021 and Lucknow Super Giants’ 213/4 at Chennai on 23 Apr 2024. For each team’s full batting record, start with the most runs in IPL list.

Grounds and Overs Behind the Biggest IPL Chases

Two grounds stand out. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur host four chases each from the top 25. The Wankhede Stadium entries include Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 249/4 and three Mumbai Indians chases, among them 224/4 versus KKR on 29 Mar 2026. Jaipur saw Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals all reach 225 or more there.

Most of these chases were not last-ball affairs. The quickest is Delhi Capitals’ 214/3 versus Gujarat Lions (4 May 2017), done in 17.3 overs. Only four chases went the full 20 overs, including Lucknow Super Giants’ 213/9 in Bengaluru (10 Apr 2023), won with nine wickets down.

The overs column is the one to watch. Many top chases ended in the 19th over, which shows that big targets are now being hunted down with balls to spare rather than scraped home.
