The highest score in IPL history is still 175* by Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, made off 66 balls against Pune Warriors on 23 Apr 2013. Nobody has come closer than Brendon McCullum’s 158* for Kolkata Knight Riders on 18 Apr 2008.
This page lists the top 25 individual innings, the 20 biggest team totals and the 10 lowest. The source is the full IPL record in the data, 1,243 games long, spanning 18 Apr 2008 to the last game on 31 May 2026. Kings XI Punjab innings are filed under Punjab Kings, since every side carries its present name.
Who Holds the Highest Individual Score in IPL History?
Gayle’s 175* is a long way clear. It had 13 fours and 17 sixes, so more than half of his runs came from sixes alone. McCullum’s 158* sits second, and it was made in a match on the first day the data covers. Third is KL Rahul’s 152* off 67 balls, made for Delhi Capitals in a 25 Apr 2026 game with Punjab Kings.
The list rewards batters who stay to the end. Eight of the top 10 scores are unbeaten, and only Abhishek Sharma’s 141 for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Shubman Gill’s 129 for Gujarat Titans against Mumbai Indians ended in a dismissal.
A few names keep coming back. Gayle has three entries in the top 25 (175*, 128* and 117), all for RCB. AB de Villiers, Abhishek Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Virender Sehwag and KL Rahul each have two. Rahul’s pair came for two teams: 132* for Punjab Kings in 2020 and 152* for Delhi Capitals in 2026. For the full batting picture, see the IPL run-scoring list, where Virat Kohli leads with 9,336 runs.

Highest Team Totals in IPL: The 2024 Jump
For years the team mark was RCB’s 263/5 against Pune Warriors, the same night Gayle made 175*. That stood until 2024. Sunrisers Hyderabad then posted 277/3 against Mumbai Indians on 27 Mar 2024 and then 287/3 versus RCB in Bengaluru on 15 Apr 2024. That 287/3 is still the highest IPL total in the data.
SRH own five of the six biggest totals, and two of them (286/6 and 277/3) were posted in Hyderabad, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Of the totals above 250 in the table, only two came before 2024: RCB’s 263/5 in 2013 and Lucknow Super Giants’ 257/5 in 2023.
Big totals are no longer safe. RCB made 262/7 in reply to 287/3 and fell short, but Punjab Kings reached 262/2 inside 18.4 overs at Eden Gardens, 26 Apr 2024, overhauling 261/6. On 25 Apr 2026 they went further, reaching 265/4 in 18.5 overs after Delhi Capitals made 264/2. The highest run chase list tracks those games.
Lowest IPL Totals and How to Read These Lists
At the other end, the floor is 49. RCB lasted just 9.4 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on 23 Apr 2017. RCB appear four times in the bottom 10, with 49, 68 and two scores of 70. Rajasthan Royals have the next two, 58 at Newlands, Cape Town in 2009 and 59 at Jaipur in 2023.
The individual list ranks by runs in one innings. A star means not out. Balls faced, fours and sixes help you compare innings of the same size: de Villiers hit 19 fours in his 133*, while Gayle’s 175* leaned on sixes. Team totals are ranked by runs, with overs shown, so 265/4 in 18.5 overs shows a side that still had balls to spare. Lowest totals count all-out innings only. Super overs are not counted.
