Seven wins in a row from the 2018-19 season to Dec 2021 explain most of the gap in the Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers head to head, which stands at 14-8 after 22 BBL matches, the first played on 10 Jan 2012. The latest meeting went to Adelaide Strikers, a 3-wicket win at the SCG on 17 Dec 2025.
This is a lower scoring rivalry than most in the BBL, and one where chasing usually pays. Here are the season results, top players, biggest totals and grounds.
How the Sixers built their lead
The early seasons swung back and forth. Sydney won the first meeting at Adelaide by 64 runs, bowling the Strikers out for 87, and Adelaide replied with a 9-wicket win the next season. The Strikers then won single games in three straight seasons, 2015-16 to 2017-18.
From 2018-19 the Sixers took over, sweeping the two-game series three seasons running, from 2018-19 to 2020-21, then winning the first game of 2021-22. Adelaide have won only three of the seven meetings since then, the latest coming at the SCG.
Chasers have won 13 times to 9, while first innings average only 163. Yet the biggest margins have come from sides batting first: the Sixers won by 87 runs at Adelaide in 2015 after the Strikers fell for 94.
