Most Runs in IPL 2016, Most Wickets and Season Records

Covers all 60 IPL 2016 matches in the ball-by-ball data, from 9 Apr 2016 to 29 May 2016. Teams are shown under their current names.

Virat Kohli scored the most runs in IPL 2016 by a distance, piling up 973 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 16 innings (average 81.08). Yet the trophy went to Sunrisers Hyderabad, who edged RCB by 8 runs in a Bengaluru final on 29 May 2016.

The season ran to 60 games from 9 Apr 2016, and every one is counted here. Below are the Orange and Purple Cap races, the most sixes, all seven hundreds, the best bowling and the highest totals. Teams appear under their present names, so Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings include the old Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab.

Kohli's Season and Sunrisers' Title

Kohli’s 973 runs came with four hundreds and seven fifties, and his 38 sixes topped the season too. Five times he was named player of the match. David Warner of Sunrisers Hyderabad was the closest chaser with 848 runs and nine fifties, and AB de Villiers added 687 for RCB.

The two best batting sides met in the final. Sunrisers made 208/7 and held RCB to 200/7. That gave SRH their 11th win from 17 matches, the most wins of any team in 2016. RCB and Gujarat Lions each won nine.

The season had two teams that no longer play: Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant. Rising Pune won only five of their 14 games, though their leg-spinner Adam Zampa took the best figures of the year. Punjab Kings won just four. The win-loss table counts every match, playoffs included, and is not the official points table.
