Which batter ended the season with the most runs in IPL 2009? Matthew Hayden of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), whose 572 came from only 12 innings at 52.00 apiece, with a scoring rate of 144.81.
The season was played in South Africa, and the record book holds every one of its 57 matches, played between 18 Apr and 24 May 2009. Deccan Chargers lifted the title after a 6-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Johannesburg final, at the Wanderers. Deccan were a different, now defunct franchise, not an earlier name for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
IPL 2009 champions and the season's results
Deccan Chargers won 9 of 16 games and RCB matched that exactly, so the final was decided between two sides with the same record. Delhi Capitals, then playing as Delhi Daredevils, had the most wins with 10 from 15. Chennai won 8 of 14.
Tables use current team names, so Punjab Kings here means Kings XI Punjab. Punjab won 7 and lost 7. Kolkata Knight Riders had the weakest return, 3 wins from 13 with a tie.
This win-loss table covers every match, playoffs included, and is best read as a simple tally. League standings and net run rate are not part of it. Every champion since is on the IPL winners list.
