Thirty balls: that is the fastest century in IPL cricket, struck by Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) off the Pune Warriors attack on 23 Apr 2013. He kept going to 175 that night in Bengaluru.
This page lists the quickest IPL hundreds and fifties across every one of the 1,243 IPL games played from the 18 Apr 2008 opener through 31 May 2026. Speed is measured in balls faced to reach the milestone, not minutes. A third table counts who has made the most IPL hundreds overall.
Who scored the fastest 100 in IPL history?
Gayle’s 30-ball hundred has stood since Apr 2013, and nobody has come within four balls of it. The closest challenge came from a teenager: V Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals) reached three figures in 35 balls versus GT on 28 Apr 2025, then needed 36 balls versus Sunrisers Hyderabad on 25 Apr 2026, both times on his Jaipur home ground.
Next on the list sit two 37-ball efforts. YK Pathan (Rajasthan Royals) got there facing Mumbai Indians (13 Mar 2010), and H Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad) matched him facing KKR on 25 May 2025. Notice how many of the top ten belong to 2024, 2025 and 2026. Seven of them do, which tells you IPL batting has sped up sharply in recent seasons.

Fastest 50 in IPL: 13 balls, done twice
The fifties table is even more crowded at the top. YBK Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals) needed only 13 balls versus KKR at Eden Gardens, 11 May 2023. Urvil Patel (Chennai Super Kings) matched that exact mark versus LSG, 10 May 2026. Three batters share the 14-ball mark: KL Rahul for Punjab Kings, PJ Cummins for KKR and R Shepherd for RCB.
Suryavanshi turns up three times among the 15-ball fifties, all in 2026. On one of those days, 25 Apr 2026, he kept going to 103, which is also his 36-ball hundred. J Fraser-McGurk of Delhi Capitals and TM Head of Sunrisers Hyderabad each appear twice. Several fast fifties came at the Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru, the same ground as Gayle’s record hundred.
Most IPL hundreds: Kohli leads with 9
Speed and volume are different skills. V Kohli (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) owns the most IPL hundreds here: 9 of them in 275 innings, alongside 9,336 runs. His own quickest, a 47-ball effort in a May 2016 game with Punjab Kings, and it scraped into the last place on the fastest-hundreds list.
JC Buttler, playing for RR and GT, is second with 7. KL Rahul (PBKS and LSG) and Gayle (RCB and PBKS) share third with 6 each. Gayle is the rare batter who sits high on both lists: three of the 25 fastest hundreds are his, two of them in 46 balls against Punjab Kings in 2011 and 2015. B Sai Sudharsan of GT stands out for rate, with 3 hundreds from only 57 innings.
