Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades Head to Head in the BBL

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades Stats Over the Years

The Renegades’ lead was built in one long run. After the sides split 2012-13, Melbourne won every meeting from 2013-14 through 2017-18, six games in a row. Another clean sweep followed in 2019-20.

The Heat’s best spell came later. They won both games in 2020-21 and then won twice running in 2023: a 7-wicket chase in Jan and a 6-wicket one in Dec. The Renegades have answered with wins in Jan 2025, by 3 wickets, and Dec 2025.

From the 23 games, chasing sides own 13 wins and first-innings sides 10, a small edge for batting second. The average first innings is 167. The Heat’s biggest win shows what a big first innings can do: they bowled the Renegades out for 91 at the Geelong Cricket Ground on 13 Jan 2019 and won by 101 runs.

Finch, Lynn and the Leading Bowlers

Aaron Finch made 517 runs for the Renegades in 15 innings, five of them fifties. Four times he was player of the match, and nobody else has managed it twice. Chris Lynn tops the Heat list on 381, striking at 147.10, and Ben Cutting scored his 274 even faster, at 162.13.

Only two hundreds have been scored. Luke Pomersbach made 112* for the Heat on 15 Jan 2013, and Tim Seifert’s 56-ball 102 on 15 Dec 2025 drove the Renegades to 212/5, the best total these two have managed against each other.

The bowling list is mostly Brisbane. Mark Steketee and Cutting have 12 wickets each, and Michael Neser has 11 at only 13.55. The best spell is Shakib Al Hasan’s 4/13, taken for the Renegades on 13 Jan 2015, the day Brisbane were skittled for 80.

Where the Games Are Played

Almost half the games, 11 in all, have been at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne, where the record is close: six Renegades wins to five. The real gap is at the Gabba, where the Heat have lost all five games to the Renegades. The Renegades are also unbeaten in three games at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.

The Heat have done better on neutral grounds, winning at Manuka Oval, Carrara Oval and the Geelong Cricket Ground. See the full team pages for the Heat and the Renegades, or compare Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes.
