New York Cricket Stadium Pitch: A Bowler's Ground
Every number here points to bowling. Teams batting first made 108 on average and chasers 106, so neither side found batting easier. The highest successful chase was only 111, by India against the USA in the last match, and the lowest total defended was 113. In other words, almost every total here landed between the two.
Chasing teams won 5 of the 8 T20Is and teams batting first won 3. That sounds like an edge for the chase, but the three wins batting first were all close defences of small totals. India defended 119 against Pakistan on 9 Jun 2024 and won by 6 runs. South Africa defended 113/6 against Bangladesh the next day and won by 4 runs. Canada made 137/7, the highest total here, and beat Ireland by 12 runs.
Six captains out of 8 bowled first after calling correctly, and toss winners went on to win 5 times. South Africa dismissed Sri Lanka for 77 in the opening game, on 3 Jun 2024, and India bowled Ireland out for 96 two days later.
